BMW ConnectedDrive and BMW iPhone Apps

BMW has released a new version of their iDrive system for models 2009 and later. The newest iteration is referred to as CIC: Car Infotainment Computer. Cars with a production date after March 2011 also have the $250 option of adding BMW APPS. The BMW Apps option is internally referenced as 6NR. With the 6NR option you are able to integrate your iPhone with the car's iDrive. You can also purchase a cradle from BMW which lets you augment the phone's antenna reception with a system in the car, although there are no technical details about this feature anywhere. One of the highlights is Pandora. Once you install Pandora on your phone and connect to the iDrive via USB then you will see the following screen: The Pandora iPhone application can then be controlled via the iDrive screen and controller. BMW has also created its own iPhone application called BMW Apps. This application has Facebook, Twitter and Shoutcast radio stations. All the data and music is accessed via the Phone's data connection. In theory you could use an iPod if you had widespread wi-fi coverage. At the moment there are no Android implementations.

QNAP SS-439 PRO and SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB 1TB Hard Drive 9.5mm

I just upgraded my QNAP SS-439 Pro with 4 x 1TB SAMSUNG Spinpoint M8 HN-M101MBB drives. I decided to wait for these since they are the 9.5mm height disks vs. 12.5mm and wanted to maintain good air flow as much as possible. I upgraded from 4 x 500GB Samsung M7 HM500JI drives.

I checked the alignment since these are 4k advanced sector drives and it looks like QNAP firmware version 3.4.3 Build 0520T correctly aligned the drives:

[~] # fdisk -ul /dev/sda

Disk /dev/sda: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders, total 1953525168 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sda1              40     1060289      530125   83  Linux
/dev/sda2         1060296     2120579      530142   83  Linux
/dev/sda3         2120584  1952507969   975193693   83  Linux
/dev/sda4      1952507976  1953503999      498012   83  Linux

I am guessing this also applies to the SS-839 Pro unit since they are the same except for the 4-bay vs. 8-bay design. It's great to finally start catching up to the 3.5" units. I have 2746.27GB of usable space in RAID5 and EXT4.

Now on to the pics:

Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite Juicer

Juice Fountain Elite Commercial performance. Home kitchen convenience. 1000 watts power up to 13,000 RPM for up to 30% more juice than traditional juicers. Over 40,000 filtering pores ensure smooth and delicious refreshment. Easy-to-clean components allow you more time for enjoyment. The extra-large 3"-wide (7.6 cm) feed-tube maximizes efficiency and cuts down your prep time.

Die-cast Juice Fountain Elite

I got this juicer to start eating more vegetables. It is hard to eat the recommended serving for vegetables and it's also time consuming to chew vegetables. This juicer extracts the juice in 10 seconds. This makes it convenient to drink my daily vegetable servings. The juice form also helps improve the absorption of the micro-nutrients by the body more readily.

What is appealing about this model is the construction. The pieces are die-cast metal and the blades are made from titanium. This means it is heavy duty and saves time when cleaning up after use. The juicer has two speed settings: 6,500rpm(low) and 13,000rpm(high). It is pretty loud at high rpms, but it's also very fast. The motor itself can detect if there is no food going down the 3 inch chute and slow the revolutions until it detects food, very clever.

Now let's see some pics:

I had a GTX 570 and did the step-up for the GTX 580. EVGA seems to be including the high flow bracket standard with the latest batches.
